The Role
Our ambulances work hard. By the time they return to the Jubilee Fleet Depot at the end of a shift, they have covered miles, transported patients, and been in and out of hospitals across London. Before any of those vehicles goes out again the following day, it needs to be clean, checked, stocked, and ready.
As a Vehicle Turnaround Operative, that is your job. Working 18:00–05:00 on a 4-on/4-off rota, you will take each returning ambulance through a consistent turnaround process — end-of-shift clean, walkaround check, kit restock, defect reporting — so the next crew picks up a vehicle they can trust from the moment they take the keys.
This is a hands-on, independent role. You will manage your own workload across multiple vehicles each shift, work to a high standard without close supervision, and ensure nothing gets missed. The patients who travel in these vehicles are depending on the work you do.
Roles and Responsibilities
Vehicle Turnaround and Presentation
• Clean and prepare all returning ambulances to a consistently high standard at the end of each operational shift, ensuring they are presentable and ready for the next crew.
• Carry out thorough interior and exterior cleaning of all vehicle areas, including the patient compartment, in line with OnCue's routine cleaning standards.
• Restock vehicles with required consumables and equipment in line with the standard vehicle kit list.
• Ensure vehicles are correctly repositioned within the Depot ready for the next crew.
Vehicle Checks and Defect Reporting
• Complete a walkaround check on each vehicle covering tyres, lights, fluid levels, bodywork, and interior condition.
• Record and report any defects, damage, or equipment issues using the correct process and update the fleet management system accordingly.
• Ensure any vehicle involved in an incident or presenting a safety concern is clearly flagged and not returned to service without authorisation.
• Carry out minor maintenance tasks within your competence, such as topping up fluids, replacing bulbs, and fitting wiper blades.
Depot Standards
• Keep the Depot and all work areas clean, tidy, and safe throughout your shift.
• Maintain correct storage and rotation of consumables and PPE stocks.
• Flag any stock shortages or equipment concerns to the Fleet team promptly.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
• Work in accordance with Health and Safety and COSHH regulations at all times.
• Complete all supporting documentation accurately and on time.
• Ensure incidents, near misses, and hazards are reported in line with company procedures.
• Communicate clearly at shift handover so nothing is carried forward unresolved.
Skills/Experience
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and experience:
• A full, valid manual UK driving licence with no more than 6 live penalty points. (Essential)
• No previous penalties for drink driving or insurance-related convictions, even if spent. (Essential)
• Demonstrable experience of cleaning or preparing vehicles to a high standard, ideally in a fleet, commercial, or transport setting. (Essential)
• A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to identify vehicle defects or safety concerns. (Essential)
• Ability to work independently on a rotating 4-on/4-off shift pattern (18:00–05:00) and manage your own workload across multiple vehicles. (Essential)
• Good attention to detail and the discipline to complete records and checklists accurately. (Essential)
• Experience in a patient-facing or healthcare transport environment. (Desirable)
• Familiarity with Infection Prevention and Control standards. (Desirable)
All successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure and previous employment referencing.
